Program Information - The Learning Tree Pre-school

All Programs

Our goal at The Learning Tree is to create an environment that sparks the start of a life-long love of learning for each of the children in our classes.
There is no greater trust than the trust parents give to those caring for and teaching their children.  We certainly do not take this responsibility lightly and take every opportunity to show our children and their families how much we care, value, and believe in them.

We believe strongly in a learn through play philosophy which we incorporate into all of our programs. Young children learn through music, movement, fun and play. We encourage independent learning and collaborative exploration, and use developmentally appropriate enriched material to create a child-centred learning environment.  We provide creative outlets, guidance, and ideas for new learning opportunities for all of our children through hands on activities and  observation.

Music and Dance with a Professional are scheduled monthly, and as a class we continue to include music and physical activities throughout the week, between these special classes.

We want your children to maximize their preschool experience with field trips and special presentations, however, we realize there are lots of working parents and younger siblings of preschool children, so we like have our field trips come to us at the preschool.  We are always looking for new and interesting opportunities to present to the kids!

These in-class 'field trips' have included:

Calgary Fire Department for Fire Safety
Calgary Police Service to talk about bike and vehicle safety
Paramedics in to discuss bodies, poison and safety
The Calgary Public Library for Storytime
The Calgary Humane Society
Outdoors In
Calgary Reptile Parties
Richard the Magician

We also do a Fall Walk, PJ Day, Winter Fun Day, Picnic Day, Mother's Day Tea, and a Year End Carnival.

3 Year Old AM Program - T/R mornings from 9:20 am - 11:20 am $175/month

Our 3 year old program focuses on socialization within the classroom setting and encouraging the children to discover play in both small and large groups.  We strategically plan the room, materials, toys and activities to promote personal and social development through their interaction and to encourage the construction of a community within the classroom.  This class promotes social development helping the children move from parallel play to learning how to incorporate other children, and themselves into play settings.
We support, encourage and enhance language and literacy development, gross and fine motor skills, and early math and science skills through a carefully designed program built around the children's interests.

4 Year Old AM Program - M/W/F mornings from 9:20 am - 11:30 am  $200/month

Our 4 year old AM program is a Kindergarten readiness or Junior Kindergarten program.  Children will learn letters, sounds and sight words towards early literacy, and learn to write their first and last names.  We do this through a number of fun, play activities that have the children eagerly anticipating the next lesson.  We use creative strategies to work on their fine motor skills and encourage this important component of development towards writing.  We have our own adapted version of the Writing Without Tears program and our very own literacy program with the class mascot, Cuddle Bear.

The program we have designed incorporates independent learning and collaboration, educational explorations, the arts- including physical activity, and math and science.

Early math and science skills are supported through different centres that the children can discover and explore each week.  We practice counting forward and backward, numeration, patterning, geometry, and problem solving throughout the year.
3/4 Year Old PM Creative Inquiry Program- M/W/F afternoons from 12:30 pm - 2:40 pm  $200/month
Option of 2 days for $175/month

Our 3/4 year old afternoon program is a dynamic opportunity for child led learning where the children are actively involved in guiding the curriculum. The smaller class size in the afternoon allows for more flexibility with the schedule, a higher teacher/student ratio, and the ability to go more in depth with any given topic or theme. Music, Dance, and Art will be a big component of the afternoon class, encouraging personal and social growth. While the children will still gain all of the early developmental skills as outlined in our 4 year old AM program (language and literacy, math and science), the Creative Inqury program offers an additional focus on hands on exploration, observation, and self discovery through the arts.
