Program Information - The Learning Tree Pre-school

All Programs - Our preschool's goal is to create a lifelong love of learning with the children in our classes.  There is no greater trust that which parents give to those caring for and teaching their children.  We do not take this responsibility lightly and take every opportunity to show our children and their families how much we care for and value them.

We incorporate our programs through fun, play and games as we believe children learn best through their play.  We have included regular music and yoga days for all of our classes.  Music class is with a professional music teacher teaching the Little Mozart program and yoga class with a professional children's yoga instructor. We continue to include music and physical activities throughout the week and in between these special classes.

We want your children to maximize their preschool experience with field trips and special presentations, however, we realize there are lots of working parents and younger siblings of preschool children, so we try to have our field trips come to us at the preschool.  This year, on top of the regular music and yoga classes, we have the following for "At Preschool" field trips:

Firefighters coming in to do fire safety
Police officer to talk about bike and vehicle safety
Paramedic in to discuss bodies, poison and safety
A Librarian for a special story time
The Calgary Humane Society
Outdoors In
Calgary Reptile Parties
Farm Animals

We also do a skating day, picnic day and Mother's Day Tea

3 Year Old AM Program - T/Th mornings from 9:20 am - 11:20 am $175/month

Our 3 year old program has a large focus on socialization with the children, encouraging them to discover play in both small and large groups.  We strategically plan the room, toys and activities to promote the skills we are developing with the children while engaging them to play with one another.  This class promotes social development helping the children move from parallel play to learning how to incorporate other children, and themselves into play settings.
We support, encourage and enhance language and literacy development, early math and science skills through a carefully designed program built around the children's interests.

4 Year Old AM Program - M/W/F mornings from 9:20 am - 11:30 am  $200/month

Our 4 year old program is a Kindergarten readiness or Junior Kindergarten program.  Children will learn letters, their sounds and sight words towards early literacy, and learn to write their names.  We do this through a number of fun, play activities that have the children eagerly anticipating the next lesson.  We use creative strategies to work on their fine motor skills and encourage this important component of development towards writing.  We have our own adapted version of the Writing Without Tears program and our very own literacy program with the class mascot, Cuddle Bear.

We have specially designed programs incorporated throughout the year to learn about language, culture and other countries which includes a virtual tour around the world, visiting a different country each class for a month.

Early math and science skills are supported through a different centre the children can play at and discover in each week.  We practice counting forward and backward, by 2's and 5's and work on patterns and sorting throughout the year.
4 Year Old PM Language and Literacy Program - M/W/F afternoons from 12:30 pm - 2:40 pm  $200/month

Our 4 year old afternoon program includes all of the fun, play and centres of our morning program, but offers an additional academic focus on literacy.  Children will still gain all the early development skills as outlined in our 4 year old AM program, as well as learn the complete list of pre-k sight words and begin working on level 1 readers.  Circle time concepts of calendar, numbers, shapes and colors will be offered in French and English, expanding the children's language skills when they are most able to do so.
